Kitty Kaburo opens her residency exhibition "Kung Ano sa Babaw, Amo Man sa Dalum (As Above, So Below)" at the Kapitana Gallery in Balay ni Tana Dicang in Talisay City, Negros Occidental on May 31, Friday, at 6pm.
This is the culmination of Kaburo's two-month exploration of Negros Island for the artist residency program of ABungalow in partnership with Tin-aw Art Management, Inc.
The oil on canvas artworks present flora and fauna around Talisay, Silay, and Bacolod. Kaburo depicts the landscape and architecture of Negros reflecting on the challenges and changes across time. These latest works continue her concern with the balancing of impermanence and memory.
Visual artist Kitty Kaburo graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Fine Arts in 2015. in 2018, Kaburo was nominated in the Singapore Signature Art Prize and in 2017 a finalist in the Ateneo Art Awards. Kaburo has taken an art residency in Langgeng Art Foundation in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Her works have been exhibited in several group exhibitions in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Taiwan.
This is the 3rd year of the ABungalow artist residency program. ABungalow and Kapitana Gallery invite artists from around the Philippines to stay in Negros, explore the island, and develop an exhibition about the place and its people at the end of the residency.
